Dr. William Winkenwerder

Dr. William “Bill” Winkenwerder is a highly recognized leader in the American healthcare industry with an expansive background of executive roles in large-scale healthcare organizations (Highmark Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and Prudential Healthcare). From 2001-2007 he served the United States as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs in the Department of Defense, where he was the leader of the $40B Military Health System and the principal medical advisor to the Secretary of Defense. He was also CEO of Highmark Health, one of the largest U.S. integrated health systems.

 

Dr. Winkenwerder is currently Chairman of CitiusTech, a global leader in health information technology and software, Lead Director of Confluent Health as well as Chairman of Winkenwerder Strategies, LLC. He serves as a board director or has served as a director for numerous other companies including Sagility Health, UNC Health, athenahealth, WPS Health Solutions, Net Health, Athletico, Cureatr, Accreon, Logistics Health, and Capgemini Government Solutions. Dr. Winkenwerder is also an advisor to numerous innovative, early-stage healthcare companies. Dr. Winkenwerder is a graduate of both the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Davidson College. He is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine. Dr. Winkenwerder received his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
